NAAIC Receives NSF Supplemental Funding to Advance National AI Dual Credit Pathways

The National Applied AI Consortium (NAAIC) has received $324,326 in funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to support the development of a National AI Dual Credit Pathways Playbook.

This initiative will translate the successful collaboration between Miami Dade College (MDC) and Miami-Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS) into a scalable, nationally replicable framework that helps community college and K-12 school districts establish AI dual enrollment pathways. 

Developing a National Playbook

As artificial intelligence continues to reshape education and the workforce, institutions are exploring new ways to create clear, structured pathways that connect high school learning with postsecondary education. Through this initiative, NAAIC will collaborate with Education Strategy Group (ESG) to develop a practical resource that helps institutions build and scale AI dual enrollment programs that other community colleges can adopt. 

This project includes:

• Discovery and asset mapping of existing AI dual enrollment pathways and summer camp models
• Development of an AI Guided Pathways Framework
• Creation of a draft National AI Dual Credit Pathways Playbook
• Formative review with community college administrators from NAAIC’s national Community of Practice
• Finalization of the playbook for national dissemination

The AI Guided Pathways Framework will map secondary dual enrollment courses to community college AI degree requirements and stackable certifications, creating structured pathways that institutions can adapt to meet their own needs. The finalized playbook is scheduled for publication in summer of 2027.

Building a National Resource

The National AI Dual Credit Pathways Playbook is designed to provide institutions with standardized workflows, implementation guidance, and practical frameworks that support the development of AI dual enrollment pathways. Following completion, the playbook will be disseminated through NAAIC’s Community of Practice, high school resource hub, and newsletter, alongside ESG’s national network of K-12, postsecondary, and state policy leaders. 

The long-term goal is to create nationally replicable AI dual enrollment pathways that strengthen partnerships between community colleges and high school districts, making it easier for high school students to become college students.

Help Shape the Playbook

As part of the initiative, NAAIC is launching the National AI Dual Enrollment Program Survey to better understand existing AI dual enrollment and early college programs, implementation models, institutional needs, barriers, and available resources. Insights gathered through the survey will help inform the development of the National AI Dual Credit Pathways Playbook. 

Community colleges, K-12 school districts, educators, and institutional leaders are encouraged to participate.
