Advancing AI Readiness in Community Colleges Through IBM SkillsBuild

April 28, 2026

NAAIC’s collaboration with IBM introduces a comprehensive approach to AI education through IBM SkillsBuild, a free program that equips faculty, students, and adult learners with future-ready skills. The effort builds on IBM’s broader commitment to skill 30 million people globally by 2030, including 2 million learners in AI by the end of 2026. With more than 1,000 courses spanning AI literacy, technical capabilities, and workplace competencies, the platform connects learning directly to evolving career pathways while supporting institutions in building workforce-aligned AI programs.

At the center of this effort is the Customized Faculty and Staff AI Learning Plan, a structured, self-paced pathway that builds confidence with AI from foundational understanding through advanced, applied concepts. Through hands-on labs and guided learning, faculty and staff develop the practical fluency needed to evaluate, apply, and model responsible AI use across teaching, advising, and professional practice. The approach is designed to be flexible and scalable, providing educators across disciplines with the tools to integrate AI into their work in ways that feel relevant and actionable.

Beyond coursework, IBM SkillsBuild provides faculty with industry-aligned credentials, guided learning experiences, and ready-to-use toolkits that can be added to existing programs or institutional initiatives. Additional resources, including webinars and cohort-based learning experiences, offer support to deepen understanding and encourage continued engagement. Access to open-source AI models, data science tools, and analytical resources further supports real-world application, ensuring that learning extends beyond theory.

“Building AI readiness starts with literacy, but it has to lead to fluency,” said Lydia Logan, Vice President of Global Education and Workforce Development at IBM. “Through this collaboration with NAAIC, our goal is to help educators build the confidence to apply AI responsibly in ways that strengthen how they educate and support students.”
“At NAAIC, our focus is on ensuring that AI education is not only innovative, but accessible and workforce-aligned,” said Antonio Delgado, Founder of NAAIC. “Working with IBM allows us to support educators in building practical skills that directly benefit their students and local economies.”

As AI continues to reshape education and the workforce, this collaboration reflects a shared focus on practical, accessible learning that prepares both educators and students for the future. Those interested in exploring the program further will have an opportunity to learn more during an upcoming IBM SkillsBuild information session on May 19th at 12:00 PM EST.
